Canon PIXMA TS3522 Setup & WiFi Connection Guide
Setting up your Canon PIXMA TS3522 via ij.start.canon takes about 15 minutes when you know the steps. This guide covers three WiFi connection methods, driver installation for Windows 11 and macOS, mobile printing, and every error code from E02 to E09 — with specific fixes for each. If your TS3522 is not connecting to WiFi, there is one thing most guides never mention: this printer only works on 2.4 GHz networks. We cover that and every other common failure point below. For a complete walkthrough of the ij.start.canon portal that works across all Canon models, see our main ij.start.canon setup guide.
Before You Start — 60-Second Checklist
- Power cord plugged in, printer turned ON
- All orange packing tape removed from inside and outside the printer
- PG-275 (black) and CL-276 (colour) cartridges seated until they click
- Plain A4 or Letter paper loaded in the rear tray
- Your WiFi password ready (case-sensitive)
- Your router is broadcasting a 2.4 GHz band (the TS3522 does not connect to 5 GHz)
The two Wi-Fi buttons on the TS3522 (and why it matters)
The TS3522 has no touchscreen. Wi-Fi setup is done with two different buttons, and pressing the wrong one is the reason a lot of setups stall. Canon's TS3500 series manual names them like this:
- Wireless connect button: starts Wi-Fi setup (Easy wireless connect). Use this one with the Canon PRINT app or the setup software from ij.start.canon.
- Wireless select button: switches between Wi-Fi and Wireless Direct, or turns them on and off. Each press changes the setting. Canon's WPS push-button method also starts from this button.
- Information button: prints a network settings page. This page is the quickest way to see what the printer is actually connected to.
The small LCD shows the network status as icons, not words. According to Canon's manual, it shows whether Wi-Fi, Wireless Direct, or both are enabled, and a signal icon with three strength levels: 81% or more is fine, 51% to 80% may cause printing problems, and 50% or less means you should move the printer closer to the router. A separate icon means Wi-Fi is turned on but the printer is not connected to any router. If no network icon shows at all, both Wi-Fi and Wireless Direct are off.

METHOD 1WiFi Setup via ij.start.canon & Canon PRINT App
This is the recommended method for first-time setup. It uses Canon's own app to walk you through the WiFi connection step by step, then sends you to ij.start.canon to download the full driver package for your computer.
On Your Phone First (iOS or Android)
- Download Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
- Open the app and tap Set Up for First Time Use at the bottom of the screen.
- When asked how the printer is connected, select Via Wi-Fi.
- On the printer itself, press and hold the Wireless connect button for about 3 seconds, and release it when the Wi-Fi icon on the LCD starts flashing. (Use Wireless connect here, not the Wireless select button.)
- Back in the app, tap Connect. The app will detect the printer broadcasting in setup mode.
- Select your 2.4 GHz WiFi network from the list and enter your password. The app transfers the credentials to the printer wirelessly.
- The Wi-Fi icon on the printer's LCD flashes during connection, then stays lit when connected. This takes about 60 seconds.
- The app confirms "Printer connected to network." Your printer is now on WiFi.
Then on Your Computer
- Open your browser and go to ij.start.canon (confirm the address bar shows exactly this — ending in .canon).
- Click Set Up, type TS3522 in the search box, and press Enter.
- Select your operating system and download the Full Software Package for complete printing and scanning functionality.
- Open the downloaded file and follow the on-screen installer. When it asks for connection type, choose Wireless LAN — the installer will find your printer on the network automatically.
- Print a test page when prompted to confirm everything is working.
METHOD 2WPS Button — Fastest Connection Method
If your router has a physical WPS button (most routers sold in the US and Canada do), this is the quickest way to connect. No app, no password entry — the router and printer exchange credentials automatically. The whole process takes under 2 minutes.
- Make sure your printer is on and paper is loaded, and that the WPS button on your router is ready to press.
- On the printer, press and hold the Wireless select button, and release it when the Wi-Fi icon on the LCD starts flashing.
- Within 2 minutes, go to your router and press and hold its WPS button (see your router's manual for how long to hold it).
- When the connection to the router is complete, the Wi-Fi icon on the LCD stays lit. If the Alarm lamp lights instead, check the error code on the LCD (see the Wi-Fi error codes table below).
- Go back to ij.start.canon on your computer and download the driver as described in Method 1, Step 2 onward.
Canon TS3522 WPS setup guide: no WPS button on your router?
If your router has no WPS button but supports a PIN, the printer can also run WPS in PIN mode: Canon lists it as Setup menu item 9. Press the Information button first to print the network settings page, which shows the printer's WPS PIN code, then enter that PIN in your router's admin page.
METHOD 3USB Cable Setup — Windows Fallback
If WiFi setup is consistently failing, using a USB cable to set up the printer first is the most reliable fallback. Once drivers are installed via USB, you can then switch the printer to wireless. This method works on Windows only — macOS users should use AirPrint (see the Drivers section).
- Connect the printer to your Windows computer using a standard USB-A to USB-B cable (not included in the box — most people have one from an older printer or device).
- Windows will detect the printer and may attempt to install a basic driver automatically. Wait for this to complete before proceeding.
- Visit ij.start.canon, search for TS3522, and download the Full Software Package for Windows.
- Run the installer. When it asks for connection type, select USB Connection.
- Complete the installation. Your printer is now fully functional via USB.
- To switch to WiFi: open the Canon IJ Network Tool (installed with the Full Package), select your printer, and choose Change Wireless Connection. Follow the wizard to enter your WiFi credentials.
Download & Install Drivers — Windows 11 & macOS
Regardless of which WiFi method you used, you need the right driver on your computer to print. Here is exactly what to do on each platform.
🪟 Windows 10 & Windows 11
- Go to ij.start.canon
- Search TS3522, select Windows
- Download Full Software Package (.exe file)
- Right-click the .exe and select Run as administrator
- Choose Wireless LAN Connection
- The installer finds the printer on your network automatically
- Print a test page when prompted
🍎 macOS (Ventura, Sonoma, Sequoia)
- No driver download needed — the TS3522 uses AirPrint
- Make sure printer and Mac are on the same WiFi
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners
- Click the + button to add a printer
- Select Canon TS3500 series from the list
- Click Add — that is all
Mobile Printing — iPhone, iPad & Android
The TS3522 supports wireless printing directly from your phone without any extra setup beyond connecting it to WiFi.
📱 iPhone & iPad (AirPrint)
- Open any document, photo, or webpage
- Tap the Share icon (box with upward arrow)
- Scroll down and tap Print
- Tap Printer and select Canon TS3500 series
- Set copies, paper size, and colour settings
- Tap Print in the top right
🤖 Android (Canon PRINT App)
- Open the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY app
- Tap Photo Print, Document Print, or Cloud Print
- Select your file and tap the printer icon
- Choose Canon TS3500 series if prompted
- Adjust settings and tap Print
Reconnecting After a WiFi or Router Change
Changed your router, switched ISPs, or moved to a new home? The TS3522 stores only one WiFi network at a time. You need to clear the old network and reconnect from scratch. This is a common question.
- Reset the printer's network settings: Press the Setup button until 10 appears on the LCD, then press the Black or Color button. This resets the LAN settings only (Canon menu item "Resetting LAN settings").
- Set up WiFi again using any of the three methods above (Method 1 via the Canon PRINT app is easiest for reconnection).
- Once connected to the new network, go to Printers & Scanners on your computer, remove the existing Canon TS3500 entry, and add it again. This forces your computer to find the printer at its new network address.
Canon TS3522 Not Connecting to WiFi — 7 Fixes
Work through these in order. Most WiFi connection failures are solved by Fix 1 or Fix 2. For a broader guide covering all Canon PIXMA models and every WiFi failure type, see our complete Canon printer not connecting to WiFi guide.
If your TS3522 is not printing at all rather than having a WiFi issue, our Canon printer not printing guide covers print queue fixes, driver reinstallation, and nozzle cleaning for all Canon PIXMA models.
-
1
Your router is 5 GHz only — the most common cause
The TS3522 only connects to 2.4 GHz WiFi. Many modern routers advertise only one network name but actually run both bands. If setup consistently fails, log into your router admin panel (usually at 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1) and confirm the 2.4 GHz band is enabled and broadcasting a visible SSID.
-
2
Wrong WiFi password entered
WiFi passwords are case-sensitive. A capital O and the number 0 look identical in some fonts. Re-enter your password carefully. If using the Canon PRINT app, tap the eye icon to reveal what you typed before confirming.
-
3
Printer too far from the router
Bring the printer within 5 feet of your router during initial setup. Once connected you can move it back. Walls and appliances weaken the signal during the initial handshake.
-
4
Printer not fully in setup mode
The printer must be in Easy wireless connect mode before the app or setup software will find it. Press and hold the Wireless connect button for 3 seconds and confirm the Wi-Fi icon on the LCD starts flashing before tapping Connect in the app.
-
5
Router's MAC address filtering is blocking the printer
If your router has MAC address filtering enabled, any unrecognised device (including your new printer) will be blocked. Log into your router admin panel, find the printer's MAC address in the blocked devices list, and allow it. The printer's MAC address is printed on a label on the bottom of the unit.
-
6
Phone connected to 5 GHz during app setup
When using the Canon PRINT app, your phone must be connected to the same 2.4 GHz band you want the printer on. If your phone auto-connects to 5 GHz, manually switch it to the 2.4 GHz network in your phone's WiFi settings before running setup.
-
7
Network settings corrupted — reset the printer's settings
If nothing else works, reset the network settings first: press the Setup button until 10 appears on the LCD, then press the Black or Color button. If that does not help, Setup 17 resets all printer settings (press Setup until 17 appears, then Black or Color). Then start setup from scratch using Method 1.
Check what the printer sees: print the network settings page
Before changing anything else, press the Information button with paper loaded. The printed page tells you more than any lamp. The lines worth reading, using Canon's item numbers:
- 2-2 Result Codes: a diagnostic code. Canon explains each code at canon.com/ijnwt.
- 3-2-5 Connection: Active means the printer is joined to your router. Inactive means it is not, so redo setup.
- 3-2-6 SSID: the network name the printer is using. If it is your old router's name, the printer never got the new details.
- 3-2-1 Signal Strength: 0 to 100%. Low numbers line up with the weak-signal icon on the LCD.
- 3-2-4 MAC Address: you need this if your router uses MAC filtering or if you want to reserve a fixed IP address for the printer.
If you only want to clear the Wi-Fi settings and start again (not a full reset), Canon's manual lists Setup menu 10, Resetting LAN settings: press the Setup button until 10 shows on the LCD, then press the Black or Color button. Menu 17 resets all printer settings, which you rarely need for a Wi-Fi problem.
T-Mobile 5G Home Internet, eero, Google Nest and other mesh Wi-Fi
The TS3522 only uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (Canon's spec sheet lists 802.11b/g/n, 2.4 GHz). Mesh systems and 5G home internet gateways usually broadcast 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under one network name and move devices between bands automatically. Canon's network troubleshooting guide calls this band steering and says printing may fail when both bands share one name. For more router-side fixes that apply to every Canon model, see the Canon printer not connecting to WiFi guide.
What Canon recommends in that situation:
- Give the 2.4 GHz band its own network name, or turn off band steering, so the printer and your phone can both join the 2.4 GHz network on purpose.
- Turn off privacy separation (sometimes called AP isolation or client isolation) if your router has it. With it on, the printer can join Wi-Fi and still be unreachable from your computer.
- Use WPA2-PSK (AES) security. Answers about the TS3522 in Canon's community forum point to WPA2/AES on 2.4 GHz.
Not every gateway or mesh app lets you split the bands. If yours doesn't, a common workaround is to temporarily turn off 5 GHz while you run setup, or to keep the printer close to the main unit rather than a satellite. In the Canon Community thread about a TS3522 that would not join a T-Mobile 5G gateway, the owner got it working by running setup again from the Canon PRINT app on a phone. Treat that as one user's report, not a guaranteed fix.
Canon PIXMA TS3522 Error Codes — Complete Table
The TS3522 displays E-codes (everyday errors you can fix yourself) and P-codes (hardware errors that usually require service). Here is every code with the exact fix.
| Code | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| E02 Easy fix | No paper in rear tray, or paper fed incorrectly | Fan out a stack of plain paper, tap it on a flat surface to align the edges, and reload into the rear tray. Slide the paper guide snug against the stack without squeezing it. Press the Black or Colour button to resume. |
| E03 Easy fix | Paper jam — or front cover open during printing | Remove all paper from the tray. Open the front cover fully and look for any torn scraps inside — even a small piece will trigger E03 repeatedly. Close the cover firmly until it clicks. Press Black or Colour button. If E03 appears with no visible jam: unplug the printer from the wall for 60 seconds, then restart. This is a known TS3522 issue reported in Canon's own community forum. |
| E04 Easy fix | Ink cartridge not installed or not recognised | Open the front cover and press down firmly on both cartridges until each one clicks. Close the cover. If E04 persists, remove both cartridges, wait 30 seconds, and reinstall them. Check that orange protective tape was removed from each cartridge before installation. |
| E05 Easy fix | Wrong cartridge installed, or cartridge contacts dirty | Confirm you have PG-275 (black) and CL-276 (colour) installed, with the colour cartridge on the left and the black cartridge on the right. If the cartridges are correct, remove them and use a dry lint-free cloth to gently clean the gold contacts on the cartridge and the corresponding contacts inside the printer. Reinstall and press firmly until they click. |
| E08 Easy fix | Ink absorber almost full | The ink absorber collects excess ink from cleaning cycles. E08 is a warning — the printer still works. Press the Black or Colour button to dismiss and continue printing. When the absorber is full, the printer shows P07 (see below). |
| E09 Easy fix | Shipping tape or protective material may still be attached to the FINE cartridge holder (support code 1890) | Open the cover and make sure all shipping tape and protective material has been removed from the cartridge holder. Remove anything still there and close the cover. This is the meaning Canon's TS3500 series manual gives for E09. The ink absorber warning is E08, and a full absorber shows as P07. |
| P02 / 5100 May need service | Carriage jam — print head cannot move freely | Turn off the printer and unplug it. Open the front cover and look for paper, a cartridge that came loose, or a foreign object blocking the carriage rail. Gently clear the obstruction. Plug in and restart. If P02 returns consistently, the encoder strip may need cleaning — wipe it gently with a lint-free cloth dampened with water. |
| P07 / 5B00 May need service | Printer error (support codes 5B00 to 5B15). Commonly linked to the ink absorber being full. | Canon's manual says to contact a Canon service center for this code. The ink absorber is the pad that soaks up ink from cleaning cycles. Unofficial reset tools only reset the counter and leave the pad full, so ink can overflow inside the printer and onto your desk. If the printer is under warranty, use Canon's service. If it isn't, compare the repair quote with the price of a new printer; for a low-cost model like the TS3522, replacing it is often the cheaper choice. |
TS3522 Wi-Fi setup error codes (E31 to E39)
These codes only appear during or after network setup. Meanings and actions are from Canon's TS3500 series error list. In every case, press the printer's OK button to clear the code first.
| Code | What Canon says it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| E31 | Wi-Fi setup failed. | If you used WPS, check the router's security settings and try again, or use another setup method. |
| E32 | No wireless router found during setup. | Run Wi-Fi setup again, with the printer nearer the router. |
| E33 | More than one router was trying to connect to the printer. | Wait about 2 minutes and run setup again. |
| E34 / E36 | Easy wireless connect failed (support codes 3440 / 3441). | Retry Easy wireless connect. If it fails again, switch methods: WPS, or a USB cable setup. |
| E37 | Wi-Fi setup failed. | Turn the router off and on, then run setup again. |
| E38 | Cannot connect to the router. | Check that the printer's Wi-Fi is on, the network name is right and the password is correct, then restart the router. |
| E39 | Communication error over Wi-Fi or in standby (support code 495A). | Restart the printer and router; if it repeats, redo setup. |
E36 is the one TS3522 owners report most often. On its own it only tells you the phone or computer could not hand the Wi-Fi details to the printer. In TS3522 threads on Canon's community forum, the causes reported match the fixes above: the phone was on 5 GHz, a VPN was running on the phone, or the router uses WPA3 only.
TS3522 Printing Problems: Not Printing Black, Blank Pages, or Has Ink but Won't Print
Once the TS3522 is on Wi-Fi, the next most common complaint is pages that come out blank or missing black. These are print-head problems, not network problems, and the TS3522 has its own button routine for them. All of these steps are from Canon's TS3500 series manual and work from the printer's buttons, so you don't need a computer.
Step 1: Read the ink lamps
The two ink lamps next to the LCD tell you which cartridge is involved. The upper lamp is the black cartridge (PG-275) and the lower lamp is the color cartridge (CL-276). A lamp that stays lit means that cartridge is running low. A lamp flashing together with the Alarm lamp means an error, so check the code on the LCD.
Step 2: Print a nozzle check
- Load one sheet of Letter-size plain paper in the rear tray.
- Press the Setup button until 1 shows on the LCD.
- Press the Black or Color button. The nozzle check pattern prints.
Look at the black block. If it is missing or has white streaks, the black nozzles are blocked or the cartridge is empty. If the black block prints fine but your documents still come out without black, the problem is on the computer side (driver settings or grayscale options), not the cartridge.
Step 3: Clean, then deep clean
- Press Setup until 2 shows, then press Black or Color. This is a standard cleaning and takes about a minute. It is done when the ON lamp stops flashing and stays lit.
- Print the nozzle check again (Setup 1).
- If it is still bad after two standard cleanings, press Setup until 3 shows and press Black or Color for a deep cleaning (about 1 to 2 minutes).
- If deep cleaning doesn't fix it, turn the printer off, leave it for 24 hours, and deep clean once more.
Cleaning uses ink, so don't loop it over and over. Canon's next step after that is a new FINE cartridge, and after that, service.
Canon TS3522 not printing black after a new cartridge
Check the bottom of the new PG-275 for the protective tape. Canon's manual specifically says to make sure it has been removed. A cartridge with tape still on will show as installed and still print nothing. Also note that if you put in a used or refilled cartridge, Canon says the ink level reading may be wrong, so the lamp may not warn you that it's empty.
Canon PIXMA TS3522 printing blank pages
Completely blank pages from both cartridges usually mean neither cartridge is ejecting ink. Run the nozzle check first. If the whole pattern is blank, check that both cartridges are seated (color on the left, black on the right) and that no tape is left on them, then run the cleaning steps above. For causes that apply to every Canon model, see the Canon printer printing blank pages guide.
Canon TS3522 has ink but won't print
If the lamps show ink but nothing happens at all (no paper feeds), the job is probably not reaching the printer. Check the LCD for an error code first, then the print queue on your computer. If paper feeds but comes out blank or faded, it's the nozzle routine above. More fixes are in Canon printer has ink but won't print and Canon printer not printing black.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
No. The TS3522 supports 2.4 GHz only. This is a very common reason people cannot connect the printer during setup. If your router broadcasts both bands under one name (common with newer routers and Canadian ISP equipment), you may need to log into your router settings and enable a separate 2.4 GHz SSID.
-
The TS3522 uses PG-275 for black and CL-276 for colour. XL versions — PG-275XL and CL-276XL — are also fully compatible and give you roughly double the page yield per cartridge, making them better value for regular printing. Both are available at Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Staples, and Amazon US and Canada.
-
Press the Setup button until 10 appears on the LCD, then press the Black or Color button. This resets the network settings. Then set up again using Method 1 (Canon PRINT app) or Method 2 (WPS button). Also remove and re-add the printer in your computer's Printers & Scanners settings so it finds the new network address.
-
E03 means the printer detected something blocking the paper path — but sometimes the detection is triggered even when there is no visible jam. This happens when a small torn piece of paper is stuck inside, or when the front cover latch is not fully engaged. Open the front cover completely, look inside with a flashlight, remove any scraps, close it firmly until you hear it click, and then unplug the printer for 60 seconds before restarting. This resolves the phantom E03 in most cases.
-
Yes. The TS3522 supports AirPrint, which is built into every Mac. Connect the printer to WiFi, then go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, click the + button, and select the Canon TS3500 series from the list. No download from ij.start.canon is needed for basic printing. For scanning, install the free IJ Scan Utility Lite from the Mac App Store.
-
This usually happens when the printer gets a new IP address from your router after a restart, but your computer still has the old address saved. The fix: go to Printers & Scanners on your computer, remove the Canon TS3500 entry, and add it again. For a permanent fix, assign the printer a static IP address in your router's admin panel using the printer's MAC address (found on the label on the bottom of the unit).
-
No. All drivers and software are available for free at ij.start.canon. Retail units sold at Walmart, Best Buy, Costco, and other US and Canadian retailers no longer include a setup CD. Everything you need is online.
-
Full Software Package includes the print driver, IJ Scan Utility (for scanning), My Image Garden (photo organiser), and the Canon IJ Network Tool. Drivers Only installs just the core print driver — scanning from your computer will not work. For home use, always choose Full Software Package.
-
Canon lists E36 (support code 3441) as "Easy wireless connect has failed." Press OK to clear it and try again. If it fails twice, use WPS or a USB setup instead.
-
Canon's manual uses the Wireless select button: hold it until the Wi-Fi icon flashes, then press the router's WPS button within 2 minutes. The Wireless connect button is for Easy wireless connect through the app or setup software.
-
Press the Setup button until 10 appears on the LCD, then press the Black or Color button. That resets the LAN settings only. Setup 17 resets everything.
-
It can, but it needs to join the 2.4 GHz band. If the gateway or mesh broadcasts one combined network name, separate the bands or turn off band steering during setup if your router allows it.
-
Canon's manual says to contact a Canon service center for P07 (support codes 5B00 to 5B15). Unofficial counter-reset tools exist, but they don't empty the ink absorber, and you risk ink leaking inside the printer.
